Moral Training

Family Based Tarbiyyat (Moral Training) Program

Under this program, families must make a conscious effort in the following fields:

1.     Etiquette and obligations of Salat

a.       All members of the family must offer five daily prayers.

b.      As much as possible, these prayers should be offered in congregation in the house.

c.       At least once a week, prayers should be offered at the local prayer center. Prayer centers have been established in Lynnwood, Redmond and Kent.

d.      Jumma prayers should not be skipped.

2.       Importance of Financial Sacrifice

a.       Regularly pay the obligatory chandas: Chanda Aam and Jalsa Salana. If possible pay chandas on monthly basis.

b.       Children should be given pocket money and encouraged to make financial sacrifice.

3.     Respect for the Jamaat System

a.       Regularly watch MTA with family.

b.      Never criticize the jamaat in front of children.

4.     Modesty and chastity

a.       Both young boys and girls should be made to wear modest clothes to school.

b.      Adolescent girls should be encouraged to wear scarves.

c.       Children should not be encouraged to make friends with the opposite sex.

5.     Internet Challenges

a.       Monitor what children are doing on the Internet.

b.      Internet Software allows parents to control and lock obscene Internet sites.  Make an effort to understand and use these features.

c.       Encourage other activities like games and exercise over spending time on the Internet for fun.

6.     Family Values

a.       Parents should respect each other, respect their parents and other relations so that the children will learn to respect everyone too.

b.      Always treat children with respect.

7.     Peer Pressure

a.       As much as possible, children should not be allowed to choose their own friends. Parents should choose well behaved children as their friends.

b.       Parents should send their children to participate in Jamaat events where the children can learn Islamic values.
